India, with New Delhi as the capital has more than one billion habitants and is the most populated democracy in the world. If you are arriving the first time in India, it will be like a whole new world. On one hand you will be overwhelmed by the wonderful colors and the varieties of food, as well as being fascinated by the Indian way of living and the beautiful landscape. On the other hand, it will be difficult seeing the level of poverty in India, (27% of people are living below the poverty line). Also you have to get used to the new climate. The climate is very much dependent on the location. The currency is the Indian rupee (INR). But more than 200 languages are spoken and even more dialects! There are also many different religions and traditions. The three main religions are Hinduism, Islam and Sikhism. The time differs in the winter time 5 ½ hours and during the summer time 4 ½ hours (in comparison to GMT). The most famous sightseeing places are TajMahal and Jaipur – The pink city. But India is a very big land (75 times bigger than Denmark!) with many more amazing places for you to discover and experience!


Rajasthan is the country of the Maharajas and forts. The state is the largest region of India with Jaipur (around 3.5 million habitants) as the capital. In Rajasthan you can visit astonishing places like Udaipur, Jodhpur and many more. You can go on a camel/tiger safari or spend your money in the neat streets of Jaisalmer. You can decide if you want to work in the “Pink City Jaipur” or in the rural village called Shiv, which is one hour drive from Barmer and two hour’s drive from Jaisalmer. Rajasthan is covered by the Great Indian Desert (Thar) in the West. The climate of Rajasthan is mostly dry and hot (up to 50 degrees in the summer time and 5 degrees in the winter time).


Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh is a state in the Northern part of India. The capital is Shimla (around 1 million habitants). In Himachal Pradesh you will find an amazing landscape with spectacular mountains of the Himalayas. In the winter time you can see the mountain tops covered by snow while you will see the flowers growing and rivers flowing during the summer time. You can go on trekking tours, visit Mcleodganj, experience Dharamsala (center of the Tibetan Buddhist culture) and much more. You will work in Palampur where you can visit tea factories and tea gardens. The climate of Himachal Pradesh is quite low in comparison to the rest of India highest temperatures are around 25 – 30 degrees. The lowest temperature can be around – 5 degrees in the winter time.
